Dempster Street will be resurfaced in 2019. The work will affect traffic patterns because of the contractor will need to close at least one lane through a construction zone during the daytime. One lane in each direction will be maintained at all times. It is possible there may be an overnight lane closure at certain locations. Travel times through construction zone should be expected to be longer than normal. The village recommends using an alternate route to avoid travel time delay.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is in charge of the project. The project limits are Waukegan Road in Morton Grove to just west of Niles Center Road in Skokie. The entrance and exit ramps of the Edens Expressway will also be resurfaced. The work should be completed by the end of the year.
The basic construction schedule through the first six weeks follows. The work in Morton Grove will be divided into two segments: just east of Austin Avenue to Central Avenue and Waukegan Road to just east of Austin Avenue. The work just east of Austin Avenue to Central Avenue will begin on July 15. Advanced warning signs to notify the motoring public and other temporary traffic control signs will be installed the week of July 8. The first items of work are sawcutting, concrete removal and utility frame removal. This work is estimated to take three weeks. The work on the segment from Waukegan Road to just east of Austin Avenue should follow the same pattern.
The village intends to monitor the work and provide periodic updates of the progress and traffic impacts.
