Morton Grove Town Hall Meeting:
Welcome Ordinance

The Village of Morton Grove will hold a Town Hall Meeting at the American Legion Memorial Civic Center (6140 Dempster) at 7:30 p.m. on April 24, 2017.  The regular Village Board Meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. with the Town Hall Meeting beginning immediately afterward.

In recent weeks, a group of residents have asked the Village Board to consider an ordinance to prohibit discrimination based on a person’s immigration status. The ordinance seeks to regulate how the Morton Grove Police Department handles requests from the federal government to investigate and detain persons who may have immigration violations. Most of the suggested ordinance reflects the current practices of our Police Department, and the department rarely receives requests for assistance from the federal government. Because this topic has been controversial Mayor DiMaria and the Village Board are providing this opportunity for residents to learn more about this topic and share their views. In the interest of being fair and consistent during this meeting, individuals desiring to share their thoughts on the matter will be subject to a time limit on their comments.

It should be noted that April 17th was originally offered as a possible date for this public meeting. However, the group requesting consideration of the ordinance asked to re-schedule to April 24th.

“This is a complex issue that can have important implications for our residents and businesses”, said Mayor Dan DiMaria. “Our board looks forward to hearing from our diverse community and professional staff before making a decision if an ordinance is necessary in Morton Grove.”

Agendas and Minutes can be found on the Village's Documents Page.
