Senior Check Up and Emergency Repsonse Programs
Are You Okay?

“The Are You O.K.?” Telephone Reassurance Program is a free service for senior citizens or disabled individuals who are living independently in Morton Grove. The program, which is a joint effort of the Morton Grove Police Department and the Department of Family & Senior Services, makes daily calls to your home at the same time each day, with you choosing the time of your call. If you are okay, you simply hang up the telephone after hearing a pre-recorded message. If you do not answer or if the telephone line is busy, three more attempts will be made before the system activates an alert report. At that point, police dispatchers will contact your designated emergency contact or police personnel will respond to check on your well-being.

For an application and Participant agreement, click here. Return both forms to the Morton Grove Senior Center, 6140 Dempster St., Morton Grove, Il. 60053.

Postal Carrier Watch Program

The Department of Family and Senior Services partners with the Morton Grove Post Office to provide seniors a service called Postal Carrier Watch. The purpose of this program is to utilize local postal carriers to look out for seniors who live alone or may not receive frequent visitors. By enrolling in this program, your regular postal carrier will take note each day if your mail is piling up. If mail is not being taken into a house, it may be an indication that a senior is in need of assistance, and the postal carrier will contact Village officials to check on the resident.

Emergency Response Systems

An emergency response system is a communication device, which is linked with an emergency center staffed by trained professionals. These professionals are able to assess a situation and alert the most appropriate person to respond. These systems allow a special sense of security for medically fragile people who live alone, or who spend most of their time alone, and for individuals who want assistance if they should need it. The systems are initiated with the objective of extending the time that individuals can live independently in their own homes, knowing that help is only a few minutes away. Companies in the area that sell these devices are listed below. The Village of Morton Grove provides this information only as a guide to companies that provide these devices.
