Income Tax Return Assistance
Morton Grove Senior Citizen Taxpayers age 60 plus can take advantage of free Income Tax Filing Assistance through the AARP Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program any Monday, Wednesday, or Friday morning at the Morton Grove Senior Center. Seniors who have low or moderate incomes that can be reported on basic IRS forms are welcome to call the Morton Grove Senior Hotline at 847-470-5223 for a personal and confidential appointment. Taxpayers should bring in the W-2, Social Security (SSA-1099), 1098 and 1099 forms they receive in the mail along with a copy of their 2008 tax return.

“London Thomas Duo”
This memorable afternoon of music will feature many popular favorites that will bring back a rush of memories. The show begins at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 22 in the Morton Grove Senior center. Register in-person at the Senior Center at the cost of $8 for Members and $9 for non-members. At the door the costs will be $9 for Members and $10 for non-members.

“Diabetes Screening”
Many people with Diabetes go undiagnosed because they are unaware of the signs and symptoms. Some of the warning signs are frequent urination, excessive thirst, extreme hunger, unusual weight loss, increased fatigue, irritability and blurry vision. Diabetes screening is offered at the Morton Grove Senior Center from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 23. Screening is free of charge. Please fast for 12 hours. Water is allowed. Hold diabetic medications.

“Podiatry Clinic”
Dr. Mark Neamand or Dr. Scott Jacobson, Podiatric Physicians, will be available for toe nail clipping and basic foot assessment on Tuesday, April 6, 2010. They will bill Medicare or insurance when applicable. Appointments are required. Please call the Senior Hotline at 847-470-5223 to schedule your appointment.

“Score by Score: An Evening of Andrew Lloyd Webber”
This show will feature the greatest music from Andrew Lloyd Webber. You’ll hear the soaring songs of The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Sunset Boulevard, as well as many other great songs from the enormous catalogue of Lloyd Webber. This is a must see performance for lovers of the modern era musical. This trip will include a pasta dinner which will be served at the Morton Grove Senior Center at 5:30 P.M. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. The cost for this trip is $79 for members and $91 for non-members. Register for this program at the Morton Grove Senior Center, 6140 Dempster, Morton Grove.

“Tai Chi Classes”
Join us for Tai Chi Tuesdays! Tai Chi instructor, Randy Visina, will be returning to the Morton Grove Senior Center to teach this class. Tai Chi is a gentle way to keep moving. Each participant will receive individual attention in order to experience the benefits of this program. This class will be held from March 2 – April 20, 2010. Register in person at the Morton Grove Senior Center at a cost of $46 for members and $53 for non-members.

“Ragtime”
Ragtime is a powerful portrait of life in turn-of-the-century America, but a relevant tale for today. The Tony-Award winning score intertwines the stories of three extraordinary families as they confront history’s timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and what it means to live in America. This trip will take place on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 and lunch is included in the cost of this trip. Register in person at the Morton Grove Senior Center at a cost of $88 for members and $100 for non-members.

“Joan Hammel, Entertainer”
Come to the Morton Grove Senior Center for an exciting afternoon as Joan entertains us with music from the 1940s to today. Joan’s strong and clear vocals are showcased with music from the Big Band Era, current popular songs of today as well as her original works. This program will take place on April 16, 2010 from 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. Register in advance at a cost of $8 for members and $9 for non-members in advance and $9 for members and $10 for non-members at the door.

“Still Acting Up”
“Your Flight Has Been Delayed”, a new musical by the senior performance troupe Still Acting Up, plays off the universal experience of getting stuck in an airport. The musical opens with the cast in travel clothes carrying their luggage, only to have their rush of adventure squelched by the announcement that their flight has been delayed. This program is co-sponsored by the Morton Grove Senior Center and the Morton Grove Public Library and will take place on Tuesday, April 20 at the Morton Grove Public Library at 11:30 A.M. Please call the Library to reserve your space.

“Ed Sullivan Show”
Join us for lunch and the “Ed Sullivan Show”…Well, not really Ed, but an inspired and uncanny interpretation of the Ed Sullivan we know and love. This “Ed Sullivan” will host a show of the 50s and 60s stars! Lunch will be salad, chicken, vegetables, potato, bread and butter, and dessert. This trip will take place on Wednesday, April 21. Register for this trip at the Morton Grove Senior Center at a cost of $75 for members and $86 for non-members by March 8 and $86 for members and $99 for non-members March 9 or later.

“Ethnic Chicago Tour, Part 1”
Irv Cutler will be our guide for this narrated tour on April 27, 2010 of some of Chicago’s most interesting ethnic communities past and present. Areas to be covered include Maxwell Street, Little Italy, Old Town, Greektown, Bridgeport, Lawndale, Chinatown, Pilsen, Ukrainian Village, Old Polonia, Little Sicily, Germantown, and Wicker Park. Stops will be made at interesting sites providing an opportunity for walking, viewing, and visiting. Lunch will be at your expense at Manny’s. Register for this trip at a cost of $45 for members and $52 for non-members by March 15 and $52 for members and $60 for non-members after this date.

“Pinchas Zuckerman and Itzchak Perlman”
Jim Kendros will be returning to the Morton Grove Senior Center for a special celebration of these concert greats! Jim will share with us a live performance of Mozart’s immortal Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola and orchestra. In this live recorded concert, we’ll hear Zubin Metha conduct the Israel Philharmonic as we enjoy the magnificent tones of Perlman and Zuckerman. Jim will also share with us the amazing story behind the creation of this wonderful music and the amazing life challenges which led Mozart to compose this work. This delightful and inspiring musical afternoon will take place on Thursday, April 29, 2010. Advance registration is required and the cost is $6 for members and $7 for non-members for registration by March 15th, $7 for members and $8 for non-members for registrations from March 16 – April 27th. The cost at the door will be $8 for members and $9 for non-members.
