Jim Kendros Presents: Itzchak Perlman
Music educator Jim Kendros will present this program on the life and music of world renowned violinist Itzchak Perlman at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 9 in the Morton Grove Senior Center. Register in-person at the Senior Center at a cost of $6 for Senior Center Members and $7 for non-members.

“All Tchaikovsky” at Ravinia
Journey to Ravinia in Highland Park on Sunday, July 12 for an afternoon of enchanting Tchaikovsky music enjoyed from Pavilion seats. The bus departs from the Morton Grove Senior Center at 3 p.m. and returns at 8 p.m. Register in-person at the Senior Center at a price of $40 for Members and $46 for non-members. There must be 15 people registered.

Mayflower Tours Trip Preview
Join this Mayflower Tours Presentation featuring the Tournament of Roses Parade, Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, and Best of Paris at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 13 in the Morton Grove Senior Center. Register for this free program by calling the Morton Grove Senior Hot Line at 847/470-5223. There must be at least 10 participants registered.

“Introduction to E-Mail” Classes
Join instructor Sherri Peterson at 10:30 a.m. or at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 13 to learn the basics of e-mail at the computers in the Morton Grove Senior Center. Classes are limited to three people in order to give each participant individual attention. Register in-person at the Senior Center at a cost of $5 for Senior Center Members and $6 for non-members

Blood Pressure Screening
Periodic blood pressure measurement is helpful in determining if health is threatened by high blood pressure (hypertension). Hypertension is a contributor toward strokes, heart disease and kidney failure. Unfortunately, hypertension usually has no symptoms so a person can feel great and not know they have it. Free screenings are offered from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14 in the Morton Grove Senior Center.

“All About the Shingles Virus and Vaccine” Lecture
A pharmacist from Dominick’s will visit the Morton Grove Senior Center at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 16 to discuss:
• the signs and symptoms of shingles,
• the complications of contracting the shingles virus,
• shingles vaccine,
• who should get the shingles vaccine, and
• vaccine costs and coverage by Medicare and other insurance.

Bridge Lessons
The Morton Grove Senior Center offers a new eight-week series of Bridge Lessons on Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. beginning July 16. Register in-person at the Senior Center before July 9 at a reduced cost of $48 for Senior Center Members and $57 for non-members. After July 9 the costs are $57 for Members and $66 for non-members. There must be 6 people registered by July 9.

Free Amplified Phones
Free amplified telephones will be available to qualified Illinois residents with a certified hearing loss. Distribution will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 20 in the Smith Activities Center at 5120 Galitz Avenue in Skokie. This presentation will be hosted by the Village of Skokie, the Village of Morton Grove and the Township of Niles.

Chic Chicago Tour
Enjoy a fun and fashionable day of “Chic Chicago” on Tuesday, July 21. Visit a special fashion exhibit, tour the National Elks Memorial, visit Oprah’s Store, as well as a cosmetic outlet. Participants will also partake in a delicious lunchtime pizza feast. Register in-person at the Senior Center at a cost of $78 for Senior Center Members and $90 for non-members. There must be 16 people registered.

“Gracious Greta “Concert
Greta Pope will perform her lively and lyrical program at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22 in the Morton Grove Senior Center. Greta has shared the stage with well-known performers including Dick Van Dyke, Penn & Teller, Rich Little, Wynona Judd and is a poised and personable performer with many styles and languages of music. Register in-person at the Senior Center at a cost of $6 for Senior Center Members and $7 for non-members. There must be 20 people registered.

“Advance Directives” Program
An advance directive can be a gift to family and friends who might otherwise struggle with healthcare decisions due to not knowing what their loved one would have wanted. By completing an advance directive, a person can create a legal document which expresses their healthcare preferences, particularly surrounding end-of-life care. Now is the best time to complete one. This free program, to be held at the Morton Grove Senior Center at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, will discuss a Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare, Living Will and Five Wishes. Registration is required for this program by calling the Morton Grove Senior Hot Line at 847/470-5223. There must be 15 people registered.

“The Light in the Piazza” Show
The setting is Florence, Italy. The score is lush and luminous. It’s 1953 and Margaret is at the site of her bittersweet honeymoon where she has brought her beautiful daughter, Clara. When Clara’s hat blows off in the Piazza, a young Italian, Fabrizio, returns it and the love story begins. This trip to the Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre on Thursday, July 30 will be preceded by a sandwich dinner at the Morton Grove Senior Center at 5:45 p.m. Register in-person at the Senior Center at a cost of $55 for Members and $63 for non-members. There must 15 people registered.

AARP Driver Safety Program
The AARP Driver Safety Program is a two-day, four-hour refresher course for drivers age 55+. The class covers information to update driving skills and review physical and mental changes that drivers experience as they age. There is also instruction on safer driving habits, avoiding hazards, changes in roadway conditions, auto safety equipment and when to consider driver retirement. Completion of the course may entitle drivers to an extra auto insurance discount. The next Morton Grove classes are offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, Aug. 1 and 8 in the Morton Grove Senior Center. There is a discounted class cost of $12 for AARP Members and $14 for non-members. Please register in-person at the Senior Center.

“Great American Composers” presented by Jim Kendros
Celebrate the great and unmistakable sounds of American originals by Gershwin, Copland and Bernstein as well as excerpts from West Side Story and Appalachian Spring, presented by music historian and educator, Jim Kendros at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6 in the Morton Grove Senior Center. Register in-person at the Senior Center at a cost of $6 for Senior Center Members and $7 for non-members. There must be 15 people registered.

Debbie Reynolds Show
One of Hollywood’s most charming and endearing entertainers, join Debbie as she takes center stage at the Drury Lane Theatre. The bus departs from the Morton Grove Senior Center at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7 and returns at 5 p.m. Register in-person at the Senior Center at a cost of $94 for Senior Center Members and $108 for non-members. There must be 18 people registered.

“The Klezmates” Performance
Join the Morton Grove Senior Center for this entertaining afternoon featuring popular, classical, show tunes and a surprise or two from “The Klezmates.” The show begins at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10. Register in-person at the Senior Center at a cost of $2 for Members and $3 for non-members. There must be 20 people registered.

Vineyard Tour & Lunch
Enjoy this “tasteful” morning at Valentino Vineyards & Winery on Wednesday, Aug. 12. Begin the day with a tour of the vineyards and an explanation of the wine production process, followed by tasting and a gift of a souvenir wine glass. Then there will be lunch at the Village Tavern with a choice of Chicken Breast Sandwich, Half Pound Hamburger, or Caesar Salad. Register in person at the Senior Center at a cost of $61 for Senior Center Members or $70 for non-members. There must be 15 people registered.

“A Cole Porter Evening” at Ravinia
Morton Grove Seniors are off to Ravinia for an evening of Cole Porter music on Sunday, Aug. 16. Vocalists David Hyde Pierce and Victoria Clark along with Conductor Rob Fisher will perform. The cost of this trip includes a choice of turkey, tuna, chicken, or ham sandwich box dinner and a seat in the Pavilion. The bus will depart from the Senior Center at 4 p.m. and return at 10:30 p.m. Register in-person at the Senior Center at a cost of $60 for Members or $69 for non-members. There must be 15 people registered.

“The Sound of Music”
The Sound of Music is live at the Fireside Dinner Theatre in Fort Atkinson, WI featuring a cast of talented Broadway and Regional actors. Lunch is included. Theatre-goers from the Morton Grove Senior Center will travel via coach bus departing at 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16 and returning at 6:30 p.m. Register in-person at the Senior Center at a cost of $110 for Senior Center Members and $115 for non-members. There must be 15 people registered.
