Income Tax Return Assistance
Morton Grove Senior Citizen Taxpayers age 60 plus can take advantage of free Income Tax Filing Assistance through the AARP Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program any Monday, Wednesday, or Friday morning starting Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Morton Grove Senior Center. Seniors who have low or moderate incomes that can be reported on basic IRS forms are welcome to call the Morton Grove Senior Hotline at 847-470-5223 for a personal and confidential appointment. Taxpayers should bring in the W-2, Social Security (SSA-1099), 1098 and 1099 forms they receive in the mail along with a copy of their 2008 tax return.

Lyric Opera Presents: “The Damnation of Faust”
Mephistopheles entices Faust with false promises and they disappear into thin air! Faust dreams of lovely Marguerite and spirits hover overhead. Marguerite is ravished and ruined, but then saved and transported to heaven itself! This opera will be presented in sound and description by a guest speaker from the Lyric Opera of Chicago at the Morton Grove Senior Center at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19. Register in-person at the Senior Center. The costs are $3 for Members and $4 for non-members in advance. At the door the costs are $4 for Members and $5 for non-members. There must be 10 people registered.

“Spring Cleaning All Year Long”
Nancy Katz, Clutter Consultant, will be back to talk about “Spring Cleaning All Year Long”. She will discuss ways to break the Spring Cleaning Ritual down into small parts spread over the year to minimize the burden of having to do everything at once. Come and learn de-cluttering tips from an expert! This program is sponsored by Greg Simetz of Right at Home and will take place on Monday, February 22, 2010. Register at a cost of $3 for members and $4 for non-members by February 19. After this date, the cost is $4 and $5 at the door.

Diabetes Screening
Many people with diabetes go undiagnosed because they are unaware of the signs and symptoms. Some of the warning signs are frequent urination, excessive thirst, extreme hunger, unusual weight loss, increased fatigue, irritability and blurry vision. Diabetes screening is offered at the Morton Grove Senior Center from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23. Screening is free for Morton Grove Senior Center Members and $1 for all others. Please fast for 12 hours. Water is allowed. Hold diabetic medications.

Music Therapy Program
Music Therapy uses proven techniques to provide support to patients through music-assisted relaxation, guided imagery, songwriting and life review. Music Therapy also addresses depression, anxiety, pain, dementia, respiratory distress, agitation and isolation, as well as emotional and communication issues. This program will be presented at the Morton Grove Senior Center by Board Certified Music Therapist Kate M. Geouge from Midwest Palliative and Hospice CareCenter on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. The cost is $2 for members and $3 for non-members if you register by February 22, 2010. At the door the cost will be $3 for members and $4 for non-members.

Golf Mill Shopping
Morton Grove seniors who would like to join shoppers on a trip to the Golf Mill Mall on Wednesday, February 24 should call the Morton Grove Senior Hot Line at 847/470-5223 to reserve a seat on the Seniortran. Home pick-ups begin at 9:15 a.m. with arrival at Golf Mill at 10:15 a.m. Trips are $3 each way.

Movie Day “You’ve Got Mail”
Special Delivery: This is a wonderful cinematic love letter in which superstore book chain magnate Tom Hanks and cozy children’s bookshop owner Meg Ryan are anonymous e-mail cyberpals who fall head-over-laptops in love, unaware that they are combative business rivals. This movie will be shown at the Morton Grove Senior Center on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. The cost is $3/$4 if you register by February 23. At the door the admission will be $4/$5.

“Fabulous Frank & Fran”
Attention music lovers, “Frank K & Fran” will entertain at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 4 at the Morton Grove Senior with a variety of favorite songs to sing along or dance to. Register in-person at the Senior Center at the cost of $7 for members and $8 for non-members in advance. At the door the costs will be $8 for Members and $9 for non-members. There must be 20 people registered.

Podiatry Clinic
Dr. Mark Neamand or Dr. Scott Jacobson, Podiatric Physicians, will be available for toe nail clipping and basic foot assessment on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. They will bill Medicare or insurance when applicable. Appointments are required. Please call the Senior Hotline at 847-470-5223 to schedule your appointment.

Cholesterol Screening
Cholesterol Screening will take place at the Morton Grove Senior Center on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from 9:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. A full lipid profile will be drawn by Swedish Covenant Hospital. Fasting for twelve hours is required. Water is encouraged and medication is allowed. The cost for the screening is $10.00 for residents 65 and older and $12 for non-residents and residents under 65 years of age. Appointments are required and can be made by calling the Senior Hotline at 847-470-5223.

“The Side Man” at the Metropolis Theatre
Winner of the 1999 Tony Award for Best Play and a Pulitzer Prize nominee, “Side Man” tells the story of Clifford and his father Gene, a brilliant musician whose career fades with the decline of jazz and the coming of rock and roll. With Gene unwilling or unable to get a job, Clifford and his mother struggle to support each other and survive in his absence. The family soon falls apart as Gene puts his love of jazz before his family. Sharp dialogue and dime store philosophy from the musicians in Gene’s band, and the storytelling of son Clifford, propel this amazing play. (Includes adult themes and language.) The cost of the trip includes a pasta dinner. The bus will depart from the Morton Grove Senior Center at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 11 and return at 10:30 p.m. Register in-person at the Senior Center before Feb. 2 at a reduced cost of $56 for Senior Center Members and $65 for non-members. After Feb. 2 the costs are $65 for Members and $75 for non-members. There must be 15 people registered by Feb. 2.

Illinois Holocaust Museum
Join the Morton Grove Senior Center for a docent led tour of the Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie, Illinois. This new world-class museum is dedicated to preserving the memories of those lost in the Holocaust and teaching current generations about the need to fight hatred, indifference and genocide in today’s world. The group will meet at the Museum on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 12:45 P.M. Register in advance at the Morton Grove Senior Center at a cost of $12 for members and $14 for non-members by February 16, 2010 and $14 for members and $16 for non-members after this date.

London Thomas Duo
This memorable afternoon of music will feature many popular favorites that will bring back a rush of memories. The show begins at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 22 in the Morton Grove Senior center. Register in-person at the Senior Center before Feb. 22 at a reduced cost of $7 for Senior Center Members and $8 for non-members. After Feb. 22 the costs are $8 for Members and $9 for non-members. At the door the costs will be $9 for Members and $10 for non-members. There must be 25 people registered by Feb. 22.

“A Life” at the Northlight Theatre
John Mahoney stars in this evocative play about the evolution of friendships in a small Irish town on Wednesday, March 24 at the Northlight Theatre at 9501 Skokie Boulevard in Skokie. As Desmond Drumm nears retirement, his memories come to life, reminding him of the triumphs and tragedies of his youth and prompting him to mend relationships with a childhood friend and the love interest that had charmed them both. But as scenes from the past shed light on the misunderstandings of today, Desmond must realize that his lifelong ability to use his great intellect and acerbic wit as a means of self-defense has come at a cost. Morton Grove Senior Center theatre-goers will meet for this performance at the Northlight Theatre at 9:50 a.m. Register in-person at the Senior Center before Feb. 17 at a reduced cost of $38 for Senior Center Members and $44 for non-members. After Feb. 17 the costs are $44 for Members and $51 for non-members. There must be 15 people registered by Feb. 17.

Score by Score: An Evening of Andrew Lloyd Webber
This show will feature the greatest music from Andrew Lloyd Webber. You’ll hear the soaring songs of The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Sunset Boulevard, as well as many other great songs from the enormous catalogue of Lloyd Webber. This is a must see performance for lovers of the modern era musical. This trip will include a pasta dinner which will be served at the Morton Grove Senior Center at 5:30 P.M. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. The cost for this trip is $69 for members and $79 for non-members if you register by February 17. After this date the cost will be $79 for members and $91 for non-members.
