The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Luncheon

Friday, October 4, 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

There’s no place like home--unless it’s our monthly luncheon! Enter our Emerald City and discover a buffet of pot roast with carrots, potatoes, parsnips, and turnips, with buttered egg noodles, salad, and rolls. Enjoy the bewitching sound of the Quiet Storm Duo. Cost: $14 with advance ($15 at the door)

Music Makes Good Memories!

Monday: October 7, 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.

Helen Gagel, coordinator of the Good Memories Choir in Evanston, will describe how people with early-stage memory loss and their care partners come together to sing songs that they love, under the direction of a professional conductor. She will also introduce the group to the SoundsGood! Choirs now serving more than 600 older adults in seven Chicago-area communities.

Alterations in Cognition - Cerebral Infarctions/Strokes–FREE

Monday: October 21, 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.

The program is designed to review components of cerebral vascular accidents (CVA)/cerebral infarctions/strokes. Etiologic factors, manifestations which differentiate alterations in cognition, guidelines in therapeutic intervention and community resources to assist patients and caregivers with alterations, will be presented.

MG Park District-Better Balance

B/P, Cholesterol & Blood Sugar Screening- FREE

Tuesday, October 15, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

It takes only three minutes (and a simple finger stick blood test) to find out if your blood sugar level is where it should be. Also have your blood pressure screened. It will do your heart good.

MG Public Library on the Go

I Am Not an Artist/ Making Masks

Wednesday, October 16, 12:00--4:00 p.m.

In this special workshop, we will have more time for artwork and conversations. We start at noon with a brownbag lunch and conversation about masks. You are welcome drop in anytime. Around 1:00 p.m., we will start with mask making, using plastic molds and plaster to build and create our own masks. We will conclude around 4:00 p.m. Mask making with plaster can be messy – wear appropriate clothing or an apron. You are welcome to bring in your own masks for inspiration and conversation. (A material cost of $15(TBD by OS) will apply to this special workshop.)

I Am Not an Artist/ Decorating Our Masks- FREE

Thursday, October 24, 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

In this class we will decorate and paint the masks we made last week. A few plain masks will be available to work with for those that missed last week’s class making their own. Materials: Paint, glue and anything you would like to attach to your mask!

Zumba Gold

Fridays: October 4, 11, 18, 25, 2:00-3:00 p.m.

Zumba is a cardio-based fitness class that fuses Latin and international rhythms and movements. Zumba Gold format is designed for the active older adult or beginner participants. No dance experience required. Cost: $4 per class
