How to Handle A Dead Bird - Update |
A crow collected in Morton Grove has tested positive for West Nile Virus. Therefore, Morton Grove cannot send any more birds to be tested during the 2010 season. In an effort to track the distribution of West Nile Virus for control efforts, the Cook County Department of Public Health will still be documenting reports of locations where dead birds and small animals are found. Dead birds or small animals can be double-bagged and thrown in the garbage. Use gloves or otherwise protect yourself from directly touching the dead bird or animal.
To report a dead bird or small animal, call either the Cook County Department of Public Health’s West Nile Virus hotline at (708) 492-2650 or the Village of Morton Grove’s Environmental Health Division at (847) 663-3048.
