The Village of Morton Grove is proud to announce that our community has been selected by Family Circle magazine as one of the “10 Best Towns for Families”. Morton Grove was selected as one of the best communities across the country that combine big-city opportunities with suburban charm, locations that offer an ideal blend of affordable houses, good jobs, top-rated schools, wide-open spaces and a lot less stress.

An article about Morton Grove and the other selected communities will be included in the August 2007 issue of Family Circle on newsstands nationwide July 10th.

Family Circle partnered with On Board, a New York City research firm providing real estate and demographic data to assemble a list of 1,850 places with populations between 15,000 and 150,000 and a high concentration of households with an average income of $65,000. From that, 800 localities were selected based on family-friendly criteria, including cost of living, jobs, schools, health care, air quality, green space and crime rate. Family Circle assessed which towns best met those standards and ranked them according to state. The winners were selected from the highest-rated towns in the top 10 states nationwide.

Established in 1895, the Village of Morton Grove is a near-north suburb of Chicago with a population of 22, 451. Generations of families have called Morton Grove “home” as they chose the conveniences of suburban living while retaining convenient access to Chicago’s cultural amenities. Nestled between I-94 and I-294, the village is also served by Metra rail to provide reliable access to Chicago’s Loop. The village has maintained a low-profile compared to area north-shore communities. Its family-friendly neighborhoods and award-winning parks and schools have been a well-kept secret. More than 20% of the Village is made up of forest preserve land that provides a unique recreational and environmental amenity. Mayor Richard Krier and a group of six trustees govern the municipality.

Mayor Krier was pleased to receive this national recognition of what residents have known for years. “Morton Grove is an outstanding place to live and raise a family! I was born and raised in the area and my wife and I have raised our 4 kids here. In fact, our families have been in Morton Grove for four generations. Chicago's Loop with its museums and theater district is only a 30-minute train ride away and the public parks and beaches along Lake Michigan are only a few miles to the east. Hundreds of families are proud to call Morton Grove ‘home’ and I'm proud to be Mayor of this great village that is in the middle of everywhere.” remarked Mayor Krier.
