The Village’s contractor intends to begin work on the roadway and streetscape improvements along Lincoln Avenue from Ferris to School and Ferris Avenue from Lincoln to Dempster on July 6. This notice is to provide an update regarding the improvements to Lincoln and Ferris.

A. Lamp Concrete Contractors, Inc. intends to begin installing a new water main on Ferris Avenue (west side) from Lincoln to Dempster on July 6. The new water main needs to cross under an 8-foot diameter storm sewer at Capulina. The excavation at this crossing may need to be very large and deep. The intersection of Ferris and Capulina may be closed for a few days while this work is completed. During this installation, there will be scheduled water service interruptions at each property for a few hours. You will be notified by the Village in advance of the shutoff.

ALamp has indicated they intend to remove and replace the curb along Ferris after the water main work is finished. Driveways will likely be replaced at the same time. Regarding concrete driveway pavement replacement, it is desirable to close driveway access, remove the driveway pavement, replace the concrete and let it cure for several days; this process usually takes 10 days. It may be possible with the wider driveways to complete the replacement one half at a time. Access is hindered during this time, but not eliminated. The advantage is that access is not eliminated. The disadvantages are that it takes twice as long to resume normal driveway access and it extends the time the roadway is under construction. The Engineer can coordinate the driveway replacement with each owner just before the work is to take place.

Following curb replacement along Ferris, ALamp intends to begin curb removal on the north side of Lincoln at Ferris. The Village will provide a notice before this work begins.

Nicor Gas is currently performing the work to relocate the gas main along Ferris and the western end of Lincoln. You should have received a notice in May or June from Nicor about this work: what it involves, how it affects you, etc. Nicor must get in contact with you to schedule a date to change the gas service from the old main to the new main. If you live on Ferris Avenue or on Lincoln between Ferris and Callie and have not been in contact with Nicor, please contact Nicor Gas at (630) 317-2249 weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to make arrangements to have them switch the gas service in your house/building.

The Village has hired Strand Associates, Inc. to provide construction engineering services. Strand will be the principal point of contact for access issues and construction related questions. Strand’s project representative will be Justin Miller. Justin will distribute notices related to work that affects driveway, doorway or roadway access for each property.
