Morton Grove Pushes Economic Development! |
After an extensive search and review, the Village Board selected John Said as Morton Grove’s new Village Planner & Community & Economic Development Director. Morton Grove is very lucky to have Mr. Said join the team at village hall with his experience and record of accomplishments in Elmhurst as he starts to tackle the future this May (2010).
One of the first areas residents will see is improved is along Dempster Street. The century-old water main has been replaced and after the annual Morton Grove Days – July 4th Celebrations, the next phase will begin, ending in December. Roadway, streetscape, signs, benches, landscaping and lighting will all have a new look and be ready to welcome the new businesses which the village will be trying to attract. Most of the funding for this and other projects comes from Federal, State and County sources lessening the effect on Morton Grove’s taxpayers.
While there will be some minor inconveniences, when completed Morton Grove’s primary thoroughfare will offer a fresh new image of our village from Central to Lincoln. New off-street parking and bi-directional turn lanes will accommodate traffic and visitors alike. Lincoln Avenue (Morton Grove’s original “main street”) will also be getting some improvement with buried utility lines, new lighting and landscaping too. Other streets have been identified throughout the village and are also slated for repairs. As time moves forward, the new municipal “resident’s only” parking lot across from the Metra Station will offer commuting residents an improved parking opportunity. There are also plans for new restaurants on some vacant land that will be very exciting for everyone in and out of Morton Grove to enjoy as the future unfolds.
