AARP Foundation Senior Tax Assistance – Morton Grove Civic Center

The local office of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and volunteer income tax professionals will once again donate their services to assisting local senior citizens with preparation of their income tax returns.  This FREE service is available to area seniors by APPOINTMENT ONLY.

An appointment can be requested by calling (847) 663-3070.  Interested individuals will be required to provide their name and a contact phone number.  A scheduler will call back with appointment information (date, time, location, etc.). Necessary paperwork will be emailed or MUST BE PICKED UP by the senior at least 4 days prior to the appointment at the Morton Grove Civic Center (6140 Dempster).  All paperwork must be completed BEFORE the scheduled appointment. Appointment slots are limited

The Tax Preparation Appointment Process:
AARP volunteers will prepare your return following the IRS and Tax-Aide requirements for Drop-Off service.  Prior to arriving at the site for your appointment, please read and complete the documents that were mailed to you and collect all of your tax documents.

On the day of your appointment, please arrive no more than 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time*.  Tax-Aide volunteers, in your presence, will review your documents and complete a short interview based on the documents that you provide.  After the interview is complete, volunteers will inventory your tax documents and ask you to verify that inventory.  You will then be asked to return to your car to wait for your return to be completed.

Your documents are stored in locked, secure storage when they are not being used to prepare your return.  On-site tax counselors will prepare your return and notify you when they are ready to review it with you.

When your return is completed, you will receive an explanation and copy of your tax return, sign an IRS form that will allow us to electronically file your return, and your tax documents will be returned to you.  You will be asked to verify that all of the documents you provided to us were returned to you.

If you have questions on this process, please contact us at (847) 663-3070.
