The Morton Grove Environment and Natural Resource Commission invites you to the third annual Morton Grove Pumpkin Smash. Join us on Saturday, November 4 at the North end of Harrer Park from 9 am to 12 pm for family fun with refreshments provided.
What is a Pumpkin Smash?
A pumpkin smash is a way to keep pumpkins out of the landfill and a great way to have a smashing good time with your neighbors and community. Bring the kids, and watch public works raise our pumpkins up high in their giant dump truck, before watching the pumpkins fall, smashing and crashing into the composting bin below.
Bring YOUR pumpkins to Smash
We need your pumpkins for the event! Bring your gourds, jack-o-lanterns, and decorative pumpkins to the convenient drop off location, in front of Park View School on Lake Street. Then stick around in the viewing area, enjoying refreshments and spending time with neighbors and friends, to watch your pumpkin crash into the compost heap. This is an outdoor event, so please dress for the weather.
It Makes a Difference
By bringing your pumpkin to the smash you will help Morton Grove reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by composting organics. Did you know that landfills are the 3rd largest producers of methane in the US? Yuck! Your pumpkin can instead become a part of beneficial, nutrient dense compost – a great soil amendment for any garden or landscape. Pumpkins are 90% water – which is great for our soil, but not good in our landfills.
Help Morton Grove by bringing your pumpkins to the smash, because every pumpkin smashed is one less pumpkin in the landfill. Please remember to remove any stickers, googly eyes, and candles before you drop off your pumpkin.
