New Police Department and Village Hall

Since the 1980s, the Morton Grove Village Hall and Police Department have been located at 6101 Capulina Avenue, a former elementary school building dating back to 1895 and surrounded by single-family residences. The facility was intended to be a temporary location for Village Hall and Police Department functions. Today, the facility is functionally obsolete, does not meet modern standards for accessibility, and is generally inadequate to meet the current needs of a Village Hall and Police Department.

In December 2024, the Village completed the purchase of the property at 6201 Dempster Street for future use as a combined Village Hall and Police Department. The 1.67-acre property was formerly owned by Fifth Third Bank. Fifth Third Bank is relocating to a new 2,800 square-foot building at 6210 Dempster Street in June 2026. The Village plans to reuse the existing 37,800 square-foot building at 6201 Dempster Street and construct a single-story 13,400-square-foot addition to the south of the existing building to accommodate Village Hall and the Police Department operations.

The Village is working with FGMA, the Village's architect, and Leopardo Construction, the Village's construction manager, to develop this new facility to meet the needs of Morton Grove for decades to come. The Village has developed the project in a fiscally responsible manner that incorporates feedback from neighbors and the community at-large. The Village will be proceeding through the entitlement process starting in June 2026, a public process where residents and the public will have an opportunity to review the proposed designs and provide feedback. The project will be considered by the Plan Commission, Appearance Commission, and Traffic Safety Commission in June 2026, followed by formal consideration by the Village Board in July 2026.
