Impacted Area: Eastbound Main, Washington, Monroe, Madison, and Cleveland Streets will be closed to “through truck traffic” from Austin Ave
Trial Period: March 29, 2019 to September 29, 2019
In an effort to maintain a high level of vehicle traffic flow, safety and efficiency, Village personnel routinely monitor and review areas of the Village in order to recommend changes in traffic restrictions and regulations where appropriate. Recently, as part of this review and in response to resident requests, Village staff has observed trucks cutting through the residential neighborhood east of Austin Avenue between Main St. and Cleveland St. to reach either Lincoln Ave. or Oakton St. Very few, if any of the trucks have local deliveries in the neighborhood. This activity increases congestion, noise and other hazards in this area.
In response to these resident requests, Village staff believes that prohibiting “through-truck traffic” on eastbound Main, Washington, Monroe, Madison, and Cleveland Streets from Austin Ave. would be an appropriate experimental step in attempting to mitigate this concern.
Municipal Code Section 5-1-4 authorizes the Police Chief (with approval from the Village Administrator) to make temporary changes to Village traffic regulations for the purpose of determining the appropriateness of permanent changes. Therefore, for a period of 180 days from March 29, 2019 to September 29, 2019, eastbound Main, Washington, Monroe, Madison, and Cleveland Streets will be closed to “through truck traffic” from Austin Ave.
Notices informing the area’s residents and businesses of this enforceable trial restriction will be mailed individually. Residents and businesses are also encouraged to provide their feedback to the Village during the specified trial period.
