Notice of Construction – New Metra Station – Updated December 6, 2024

PROJECT UPDATE: Utility Work in Lehigh Avenue Near Chestnut Street Beginning December 11, 2024

The Village’s train station contractor will be working in Lehigh Avenue to install a water service line for the new train station building. This work will have a notable effect on traffic at this location for approximately four days beginning on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Two-way traffic will be maintained during the workday on one travel lane and flaggers will control the traffic movements. Commuter traffic and emergency response will be hindered but not eliminated. Commuters should allow a few extra minutes to get to the train station if needing to pass through the intersection of Lehigh Avenue and Chestnut Street. Please obey the directions given by the flaggers and be courteous when traveling through the construction zone. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

PROJECT UPDATE: New Drop-Off/Pickup ("Kiss-and-Ride") During Construction Starting Tuesday, November 26, 2024

In response to feedback from commuters, the Village will allow drop-off/pickup ("Kiss-and-Ride") at the Morton Grove Metra station during construction beginning Tuesday, November 26, 2024. Please see the drop-off/pickup diagram below for the exact location and routing. Note that drop-off/pickup and U-turns will continue to be prohibited on the roadways surrounding the Metra station per a police order.

The Village of Morton Grove is excited to announce the construction of a new Morton Grove Metra Station. The Village is partnering with the Regional Transportation Authority and Metra to replace the current station that was built in 1976.

When will the project start and how long will it take?
Construction will begin October 14, 2024 and is scheduled to be complete in Summer 2025.

Can I still catch my train in Morton Grove?
YES! Metra service will continue to be provided using the existing station and platform. The existing station will be demolished once the new station building is operational. The goal is to avoid service disruptions to Metra commuter rail.

Can I still park at the Metra station lot?
YES, BUT…The number of parking spots available in the station lot will be reduced from 98 spaces to between 26 and 45 spaces depending on the phase of the project.

If my usual spot is under construction, where else can I park?
Metra commuter parking spots will continue to be offered at the other locations along Elm Street and Lehigh Avenue. The Village is also providing approximately 50 new spaces along Main Street and Nagle Avenue (see red areas in the adjacent map).

Who do I talk to if I have questions?
