Vehicle Stickers will not be available at Village Hall. Stickers can be purchased online or by mail.
Vehicle stickers for Morton Grove residents can be purchased starting at the end of June 2025 and must be displayed by September 1, 2025. All vehicles registered in the State of Illinois with a Morton Grove address must also be registered with the Village through the purchase of a vehicle sticker.
The cost for each passenger car sticker is $55 until August 31, 2025. There will be a $25 late fee added to the price of each sticker from September 1 to November 30. If the sticker is not purchased by November 30, the fee for the sticker will be doubled.

From our ordinance, a vehicle is defined as follows:
MOTOR VEHICLE: When used in this chapter it shall include automobiles, antique automobiles, trucks, vans, recreational vehicles which are powered by other than human muscular power except for construction equipment, the cars of electric or steam railways and other motor vehicles running only upon rails or tracks, as well as any bicycles or tricycles or similar vehicles propelled exclusively by human muscular power.
MOTORCYCLE/SCOOTER: When used in this chapter it shall include motorcycles, motor scooters, mopeds, motor bicycles and any related device having two (2) or more wheels and propelled by other than human muscular power. (Ord. 12-30, 8-13-2012)”
Vehicles with windshields will be issued a sticker that is placed inside the car on the windshield near the lower left hand side of the driver’s steering wheel. Motorcycles and scooters will be issued a metal tag which is attached to the rear license plate via screws.
The vehicle sticker year runs from September 1st, 2025 through August 31st, 2026.
If the sticker is not purchased by August 31st, 2025, there will be a $25 late fee added to the price of each sticker. If the sticker is not purchased by November 30th, 2025, the fee will be doubled.
In addition to being required to pay the late fee, a vehicle owner may also receive a ticket or citation for not having purchased the required sticker. Currently the fine for such a ticket is $75.00.
We require the make (manufacturer), model, year, color and license plate information for the vehicle. We ask for the resident’s name, address, and driver’s license number. We also ask for a phone number in case we have to contact you for any reason. Sometimes this information is pre-filled on the applications you receive in the mail. Please check the pre-filled information for accuracy and make any necessary changes before submitting the paperwork.

Yes. As long as the car is registered to an address in Morton Grove, a vehicle sticker is required. Any vehicle without a current sticker is subject to being ticketed and fined.

Any motorized vehicle owned by a resident of Morton Grove is required to be registered with the Secretary of State and also with the Village of Morton Grove. An unregistered vehicle is considered to be a nuisance vehicle by the Village and will be treated accordingly. The owner of the vehicle must become compliant with the ordinance or the vehicle will be ticketed and/or towed.
An inoperable motor vehicle is considered a nuisance vehicle per Village code. These vehicles are unlawful and are prohibited within the corporate limits.
The vehicle must still be registered to the Village even though the car is for sale. A sticker is required. If you receive an application for renewal of the sticker after the car is sold or disposed of, you may provide us with evidence of sale and we will remove the vehicle from our registry.
In the event that you are disposing of one vehicle, you are allowed to transfer the sticker from the original vehicle to the replacement vehicle. Scrape off the old sticker and bring it to Village Hall for a replacement and to update your record with us. You will receive a new sticker. The cost of replacement is currently $5.00.
Receiving two applications usually means that our records at Village Hall are different from the Secretary of State’s records. If you do receive two applications for the same vehicle, please review both applications for errors and then return both to us so that we can delete the incorrect information. Failure to correct a vehicle information mistake can result in the issuance of a citation.
In order to receive the reduced rate for Antique Vehicles, the vehicle must be registered with the Secretary of State as an antique vehicle and have state issued AV plates. Qualification for the rate is not determined by the vintage of vehicle, but rather by the State’s classification of the car as an Antique Vehicle. Only vehicles with AV plates will receive the reduced rate. You must show the registration certificate showing the AV classification to receive the reduced rate.
To qualify for the reduced rate, the resident must be 65 years of age before Sept 1, 2025, have a valid driver’s license, be the registered owner of the vehicle, and be the majority operator of the vehicle. The reduced rate is only available on passenger cars or vans. The reduced rate is not available on motorcycle or scooter tags nor is it available on Trucks B-R.

Much of our information comes from the Secretary of State’s database. In order to take action that is contrary to what is on the Secretary of State’s database, we must have documentation on file. In order to avoid any problems in the future, it is imperative to you as the previous owner of the car that our records are accurate and up to date.
A handwritten note is not sufficient proof of disposal of the car. To have your car removed from our records permanently you must provide us with official documentation. The documentation required will vary depending on the method of disposal.
- For vehicles donated to charity, a receipt from the charity showing the date of donation, vehicle identification number or other identifying information is required. Alternatively, you may ask the charity to write a letter on its letterhead stationary with date of donation and other identifying information. This letter must include the signature of the charity’s officer as well as contact information for same.
- For vehicles that have been determined to be totaled after an accident, a copy of the insurance settlement paperwork will be accepted.
- For vehicles that have simply stopped working and ownership was transferred to a salvage company, a signed and dated copy of the paperwork showing ownership transfer is acceptable.
- For vehicles sold or gifted to new owners in a private sale, a copy of the VSD 703 (Seller’s Report of Sale) signed by the seller and certified by the Secretary of State, is acceptable. Contact your local Secretary of State’s office for further information on how to obtain this document.
- For vehicles traded in on a new vehicle through a dealer, the paperwork showing the transaction is acceptable. The documents must be signed and dated.
